Chiropractic Care
In a nutshell, what we do is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system is the master system of the body. It controls the function and life of every cell you have. Your nervous system is made up of three components: the brain, the spinal cord and the nerves that run from the spinal cord to every part of the body. These nerves have a constant flow of energy running through them, much like the electricity in your home.
When there is interference with this energy exchange system, you can’t function at your full potential. You might not have any pain. You may not show signs of sickness. You aren’t, however, operating at 100%.
Dr. Matheson is trained to assess the function of your spine and extremities (arms/legs). We will determine where parts aren’t moving as well as they should, in the spine this is called a subluxation, which causes interference with the flow of life force through your nerves. His goal is to reestablish your body’s normal function by removing the interference to your nervous system. When this is completed, your body can heal itself the way the good Lord intended it to.
After more than 40 years in practice, Dr. Matheson is skilled in assessing your spinal function and making the necessary corrections. Usually 5-6 visits will make a difference and you will know we’re on the right track with your healing. Further treatment is usually necessary to change well established spinal patterns of movement, but care doesn’t have to be as often.
People think that the chiropractor cures. Though what we do is different from any other doctor you’ll find, we do not cure anything. What we do is facilitate your body’s natural healing process by removing nerve interference. The many types of conditions that respond well to what we do, include:
- Headaches
- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Radiating pain
- Shoulder pain
Dr. Matheson uses instrument-based and manual adjusting techniques. The instrument is called an Impulse adjusting instrument. It is applied to those spinal vertebrae that show restricted mobility, which are called subluxations – this is where nerve interference occurs. A series of small, usually gentle taps are applied, making a change in the dynamics of those joints. There is no twisting or popping, which is ideal for people who are sensitive to manual techniques.
No matter which we use, our aim is the same: to reduce or eliminate subluxations and make sure your spine is better aligned, moving the way it should be.
Your spine and every extremity can be addressed using our techniques. Though your pain may be located in a specific area, we know that the cause may stem from a completely different part of your body. During our thorough consultation/examination, we’ll look for tight muscle patterns, specific joint restrictions, painful areas, limitations in ranges of motion and we’ll measure your flexibility. Then, we can determine which areas of your body need to be adjusted.
The variety of benefits you may experience, include:
- Pain relief
- Greater mobility
- Clearer thinking
- Better sleep
- Higher energy levels
- Reduced morning stiffness
- Improved stomach & bowel function
Dr. Matheson is an all-ages practitioner. Many parents bring their children in because of colic or constipation. Since a child’s nervous system is sensitive, they tend to see quick results. We love it when a parent calls us on the ride home to report they can hear their baby filling their diaper in the backseat!
In today’s day and age, we stare at cell phones, video games and screens more than ever before. Research reveals the average 13 – 16 year old sends an astounding 3900 texts in a month! More and more, we are seeing children with severe postural issues. Adults are no exception, thanks to the desk jobs that are so prevalent today. Dr. Matheson graduated from an extensive posture course several years ago and can show you exactly how to make the changes you need.
Once I Start, Will I Always Have to Go?
This common myth is completely untrue. You can stop your care at any point in time. Many people use chiropractic proactively because it improves their general health. You don’t have to wait until you’re sick, sore, bedridden or missing work to benefit from chiropractic care. In more than four decades of practice, Dr. Matheson has never taken a sick day. He credits it to his healthy lifestyle, which has included regular chiropractic care since birth – his dad was a chiropractor too.
