Hi!  I'm Dr. David Matheson ...

I would like for you to be even healthier!

As a child, I remember wondering why us "Mathesons" never got to miss school like so many of our friends did, claiming to be too sick to attend classes.  Dad's answer was simple: 'regular chiropractic treatments would keep us healthy ....... naturally, so we would seldom if ever be sick & have to miss school' as long as we would allow him to 'fix us' every few weeks.  You see, he was a 'dyed in the wool' chiropractor and he taught us 'the power that made the body, heals the body'.  He did a fantastic job of keeping all seven of us kids extremely healthy.   Even if we happened to get 'sick' occasionally, it was never severe enough to put us in bed or to cause us to stay home from school; and we'd be over it in no time!

To be honest, I never really thought much about being a chiropractor like my dad, because as my mother will attest, I thought I wanted to be in a career that was more 'worldly' than being just a local chiropractor.  It wasn't until 1973, I had returned home after having lived/worked in BC for several years, that it suddenly dawned on me ..........my dad had built a very successful practice & would be retiring in a few years, without anyone to leave it to.   He made a good income, was his own boss, worked in clean conditions, took holidays when he wanted to & loved his work.  What more could anyone want?  I decided right there & then, to spend some time in his office while he was working, to try & get a feel for what he actually went through on a day-to-day basis.  It turned out to be a life changing experience, to say the least!!  To put it bluntly, patients loved him!  They couldn't say enough about his caring attitude, his healing hands and his gentle treatments.  I was overwhelmed, and immediately wanted some of 'that good stuff' for my life.  After 2 short weeks, I decided to return to university as a mature student ( I was 25 years old) and the rest, as they say, is history!

I was accepted immediately at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto - the same facility my dad graduated from in 1951, and started first year in the fall of 1973.  The course material literally held me captive - I found that I actually enjoyed learning about every facet of the human body; anatomy & physiology were my favorites.  I studied well & stood first in my class ........... what a shock that was!  Before I knew it, graduation day had arrived, someone handed me a diploma with Magna cum Laude on it, and I entered practice with my very proud father in June of 1977.  Since that time, my staff and I have attended various seminars (Chiropractic Sport Sciences, Chiropractic Pediatrics, Chiropractic Ergonomics & many different technique courses) to keep up with the latest in research and other developments in the chiropractic profession.  This type of postgraduate study, keeps all of our skills in top form.  I have served proudly as a Director on both my provincial (Ontario Chiropractic Association) and federal (Canadian Chiropractic Association) boards as Chairman of Public Relations.

At the current time, I'm happily living with my daughter Tara, who is working  at the Casino Slots as a count attendant.  She is responsible for counting upwards of $1M per shift & filling machines, etc. as well as bartending on the side.  I spend most of my free time playing golf and struggling to be a 'gourmet' cook.  The latter is very satisfying; the former is anything but!  In the long run, I feel they balance each other very nicely.  Time passes quickly with both hobbies, and each has its own 'high', but there's nothing quite like the look I get when one of my dishes turns out to be just tooooo delicious for words!

Here is my exceptional staff, We welcome you to our Point Edward office!

I make it a point to see my own Chiropractor at least every 2 weeks, and frequently even that's not enough. Since my work is very physical, repetitive strain injuries are common and they require professional intervention if I'm to continue working at my current pace.  During my 29 odd years of manipulating hundreds of thousands of patients, I have obviously encountered a myriad of musculoskeletal problems. Luckily, much of this didn't slow me down much, but I will always continue treatment knowing in my heart that regular chiropractic care keeps my nervous system functioning as efficiently as possible, and I am able to enjoy life more fully.  I'm committed to going to the Ironworks Gym at least 3 times/week and I try to walk the talk when it comes to diet: low carb foods, increased protein, 3-6 small meals per day, lots of water, NO trans fat and 6-10 servings of fruit and vegetables daily.

I have never had a vaccination, take few if any antibiotics and have never missed a single day of work because of sickness.  I don't take Aspirin and I give thanks daily for all that God has given me, especially my career in Chiropractic.

Well that's more than enough about me.  Thanks for visiting our site.  How can we perhaps be of service to you in the achievement of your own health goals?  Why not give our convenient Point Edward office a call at 332.8133 or email me personally using the link below, to arrange a mutually convenient time to sit down and explore your options.  This will not be a hard sell - this will simply give me the opportunity to share some information with you and you a chance to check us out.  I look forward to meeting you soon.  Have a great day!!

Can babies with colic be helped with chiropractic?
It's probably one of the times a parent feels the most helpless. But based on the research, chiropractic and colic relief appear to go hand in glove. With success rates in the mid-90% range, more and more Sarnia-Point Edward parents are seeing a chiropractor. If you have a baby with colic learn how chiropractic may help.
How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
