Diversified Technique

At Matheson Chiropractic Clinic, we use an adjusting style commonly referred to as “Diversified.”

Zenith tables,&nbspthe most sophisticated ...  used with diversified technique.

To aid us in delivering this type of manipulation, we use specialized adjustment tables which lend themselves to any size of patient or condition (recent surgery, for instance) without sacrificing comfort and sophisticated, low force techniques.  On the first visit & all comparative exams, an analysis of the spine (the quantifying of gross ranges of motion = flexibility) is performed in the upright & seated positions.  This will follow the disclosure of your case history and it may even be necessary to suggest that Xray pictures of your spine be taken.

Subsequent visits will include motion palpation (Dr. David will be feeling for spinal joint movement as you turn and bend), as well as pelvic (sacroiliac joint) assessment while standing, to determine where any dysfunction may be occurring.

With the malposition of one or more spinal bones identified (known as the 'vertebral subluxation complex'), treatment can proceed.  A gentle, yet specific manual thrust is administered by hand.  The direction, speed, depth and angle that are used is the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics.  The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint.  This sound may be interesting, but has little meaning as to the value and effectiveness of the actual adjustment and in some instances isn't always audible.

NOTE:
   I
use the Impulse Adjusting instrument (with 3 distinct force settings) for those clinical situations where:

·         There would be an increased risk associated with hand adjusting, as with elderly or fragile patients

·         The patient has specifically requested their neck not be adjusted by hand (they may dislike the ‘popping’ noise for example)

This is painless chiropractic care for the 20th century!!

Research has demonstrated that hand held chiropractic adjusting instruments do indeed create joint movement, as well as spinal nerve root & neuromuscular reflex responses that are widely held as being responsible for the mechanisms behind the therapeutic effects of chiropractic treatment.

Clinical research into the effectiveness of instrument delivered adjustments vs. manual chiropractic adjusting methods has shown a positive clinical outcome in both patient groups and no difference in patient outcomes from either technique.

While the improvement of spinal biomechanics can reduce nervous system interference, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion, often producing immediate relief in symptomatology.

If you’ve previously been to a chiropractor and have a preference with regards as to how you would like to be adjusted, please let us know.  We want you to relax, enjoy and fully benefit from your adjustments.

Dr. David Asks some important questions of interest to Sarnia-Point Edward residents - Chiropractor Sarnia-Point Edward Dr. David Asks...

How come medical doctors don't recommend chiropractic?
That's changing. Years of prejudice and bias are giving way to research showing the benefits of chiropractic care. As more and more Sarnia-Point Edward folks seek alternatives to drugs and surgery, more and more medical practitioners are referring their patients to chiropractors.
What does a chiropractic adjustment do?
Chiropractic adjustments give your spine a little "nudge" at the right place, right time and the right direction so your body can use that energy to "right" itself. With a schedule of consistent chiropractic visits, a new, healthier spinal pattern emerges.
